OUR STORY...
In 1940 a handful of friends met in a home in Akron for the purpose of establishing a church that would be filled with and led by the Holy Spirit to reach their community and make a difference for eternity. That core group was the "seed" of what became the First Pentecostal Tabernacle of Akron and later, Evangel Assembly of God.
They believed together, prayed faithfully, and God blessed their efforts. A renovated auto garage served as their first church building. In 1967, a building was erected at 939 Linden Rd. and then renovated and added onto several times.
In 2005 we purchased 25 acres in a strategic location of Ephrata as we looked to the future and to further developing our vision. In 2018, we began to build a new worship facility on this prime property and completed it in the late summer of 2019. During this time period, we not only relocated, but also changed our name to Highpoint Community Church as we felt it beUer represented who we were and desired to be. “Highpoint” is a great descriptor for the experience we have when we ask Jesus to be our personal Lord and Savior. “Community” speaks of our desire to reach into our community in ways that will make an eternal impact on individuals and families.
Far more important than the style and size of a church building is what happens within that facility. The most significant representation of what we are all about is not our building, but our lives. Highpoint is filled with people of every age, representing many cultures and backgrounds, all who come to grow in their relationship with God and others. Every time we come together, we welcome the Holy Spirit to lead us on that journey.
Our ministry is framed by our vision to: Love God, Love People, Make a Difference! From our beginning until now, we’ve been progressively moving forward to accomplish that. We have been told many times that Highpoint has been a place of healing, encouragement, comfort, and hope. Day after day and week after week, ministry happens at a personal level. From the nursery through high school; from single-moms, to empty-nesters; from life groups that provide relationship and care; to our benevolence ministry that helps those with immediate needs. We also give resources to provide ongoing support to missionaries on four continents. We live in challenging times, but we are convinced that God equips us to grow and be strong in every situation. We are commited to bringing the life-changing reality of God’s presence, and we are seeing the fruit that it brings.
It is our desire that Highpoint will affect positive change in Ephrata, Lancaster County, and the entire world.
